I just assumed it was my user dictionary. Does that matter? I force-quitted. When I tried to re-open InDesign, it wanted to recover the document I had been using. But it couldn’t. So I had to force-quit again. I tried the first one first, on its own, and then both. This enabled me to open Adkbe, and to create a new document, which I could save.
This adbe seem to vree any difference. I can amend them, save them, close them. II can quit InDesign, re-launch it and open such new files.
This applies even to the simplest of files which, as far as I can remember, have not got any images or other files linked to them. Thanks Mike P. I created another user account; gave it necessary privileges; restarted in boom 3d cracked account, and opened the file I wanted to send off. No problem: It opened OK and pre-flight, package and pdf export afobe as desired. But my system Library is unaffected. Any clues as to what this could be would be greatly appreciated. I report this in case it is of any use to anyone else.
After saving it there, I copied the updated file back owrking the original user. Back in the original user, I deleted the now out-of-date version. Now, I can not only open that file without ID crashing but I can open all the other files that pre-dated it.
